It’s a Belgian beer paradise at Bistrorant Nemo - and there are 2 new beers
The little Bistrorant Nemo is centrally placed in Gozo's Xlendi Bay, at the end of St Andrews Street, and facing the sea. To find it easily, walk down to the little pier, look out for the statue of the Saint and the road ahead is St Andrews. You may even see a maroon Augustijn sunshade over a table outside the front door.

Run by enthusiastic Belgians, Corrine and Frank, who know their Belgian beer, the restaurant has upto 5 beers from Van Steenberge plus a Belgian lager. The Van Steeberge beers are
Bios Kriek. So what is Kriek? Well there are a number of ancient styles of beer still brewed in Belgium. For example some Belgian breweries produce beer that is refreshing but sour. Such beer would offend some so there is an equally ancient tradition of adding cherries to the brewing process, so alleviating the sourness with the sweetness of the cherries. These cherry “kriekenbiers” beers are now widely popular.
Bornem Dubbel is a 'living' abbey beer. This means that after the primary fermentation in the brewery, the beer continues to evolve during the second fermentation in the bottle. This typical dubbel with its warm dark brown colour and bordeaux red undertones, has a fruity flavour that immediately makes you think of grains. You'll also find a hoppy aftertaste in this velvety soft beer. Its creamy, rich and robust head crowns this jewel of a beer.A 'dubbel' means that the brewer uses twice as much malt as for a regular beer. That gives this beer its full round and rich flavor. It is said that the monks ate or drank nothing other than their Dubbel during Lent! It has an alcohol content of 8%.
Celis White is a very pale, top fermented beer, brewed using wheat rather than barley and with a touch of fruit and herbs. When served cold, it gets its cloudy white colour and refreshing light taste. Peter Celis reintroduced White Beer to Belgium in the late 1960s, brewing in the town of Hoegaarden. His brewery flourished but sadly a major fire in the 1980s meant he needed considerable finance to continue. So he sold the business to Interbrew. Then in 1992 he built a brewery in Austin, Texas. and repeated his success with many Americans enjoying Belgian style white beer - White. That brewery was sold too and Celis is back in Belgium in semi retirement but Van Steenberge now brew Celis White in Belgium under license. Celis Wit has an alcohol content of 5%.
Vlaamse de Borgogne. This flemish aged brown ale has been brewed by Van Steenberge since the 1700s and they are one of only a handful of breweries still making this style of beer - the most famous of the style is Rodenbach. Vlaamse is fruity, slightly sour and very refreshing. It is the base beer for the kriek (see above).
VAugustijn is a living' abbey beer that had been brewed by the Augustinian fathers of Gent since 1295. In 1982, the recipe for the beer was taken over and improved by Van Steenberge, who also took over the marketing and distribution. In return they pay a royalty on each bottle to the Augustinian Abbey in Gent. Augustijn has a hoppy flavour with a malty background. You may also detect a light fruity vanilla flavour. Augustijn has an alcohol content of 8%.
The restaurant offers Belgian and local dishes. so when in Xlendi seek it out, and try the Belgian specials. that’s both the food and the beer.
